Rookie League
Rookie League will consist of Kindergarten and 1st graders.
The purpose of this program is to provide a fun environment for introducing Kindergarten and 1st graders to the game of basketball. Fundamentals are introduced thru entertaining games and drills designed to provide participants with a core foundation to the game.
Sessions will be offered from 6:00 to 7:15 on your choice of either Wednesday or Thursday nights for the 2010-11 season. The program will run for eight weeks starting the first week of January 2011 going thru the last week of February 2011.
The program will again be run by Denny Tape, the Eden Prairie In House Program Coaching Director. Parents are encouraged to volunteer in helping the girls thru the drills when available. The Rookie League focuses on many of the primary skills and drills that your daughters will see throughout all levels of the Eden Prairie Girls Basketball Program. It is also an excellent foundation for parents considering coaching within the program in the future.
Many of the sessions will also be assisted by various teams from our girls Travel Program. Past feedback has shown that this interaction and instruction has been a highlight for many of the rookie league participants.
All Rookie League players will receive a basketball and a t-shirt as part of their registration. We look forward to seeing you and your daughters there.
Volunteer Opportunities :For the EPGBA to run a successful basketball program, we need volunteers for head coaches and assistants. If you have a basic knowledge and love of the game, and enjoy working with kids, you are just who we are looking for. Coaching manuals and general practice schedules, outlining the basic skills relevant for your players will be provided for you to work from. We are also expanding the role of EPGBA's coaching director, Denny Tape, this season to provide additional resources for coaches on effective practice planning, and how to keep it fun. Coaching clinics will also be scheduled prior to your first practice to equip coaches with the resources to help ensure a successful season.
