Summer Shooting-Dribbling Challenge: July Leaderboard

Congratulations to all players participating in the Summer Shooting-Dribbling Challenge. This summer program is designed to motivate and assist players in developing their dribbling and shooting skills. The Challenge is open to both travel and in-house players and runs from June 1 to September 15.

It's not too late to sign up and start shooting and dribbling!  You can register for the challenge by clicking here. Registration will be open throughout the summer.

After you register, download this Tracking Sheet which includes suggested 50, 100, 150 and 200-shot routines to help players work on a variety of shots and more easily track their sessions. Links to dribbling drills and routines are also provided.

Grade-level goals have been established for both MADE baskets and dribbling minutes and players will receive prizes and recognition for meeting their shooting goal or dribbling goal or both. For players who want an extra challenge this summer, special recognition and prizes will be given to those who achieve a stretch goal of 10,000 made shots and 1,000 dribbled minutes.

Congrats again to all participants and we look forward to seeing the final submissions at the end of the summer!

Welcome Coach Lo to EPGBA

We are very excited to announce  that Lawrence Barnes--known as Coach Lo--has joined us as a Coaching Director with the Eden Prairie Girls Basketball Association (EPGBA).  He has an extensive career in basketball, being a former college player himself, before moving on to coaching. Coach Lo has coached in school districts as well as the community.  With over eight years of experience coaching in the Orono School District, he has also coached girls basketball at various levels including high School, JV, and middle school in addition to seven years of AAU coaching.    With Coach Lo's leadership of various summer camps,  coaching, and director roles, he brings a wealth of experience in developing players,  coaches, and teams at all levels.   Coach Lo also offers individual personal training sessions for basketball.  Please join us in welcoming Coach Lo to the EPGBA.  Feel free to introduce yourself at any time.   You can also contact him via email at  .    Welcome Coach Lo!

Tune-up Clinics Registration is Open

Clinics are open to 4th- 8th grade players. Sessions will be held from 6:00-8:30 pm at the EPHS Main Gym on the following dates:

Tuesday: September 3rd 
Thursday: September 5th
Monday: September 9th
Wednesday: September 11th

4th grade, 5th grade and 6th grade - 6:00pm - 7:15pm

7th grade and 8th grade - 7:15pm - 8:30pm

These Clinics will be run by EPGBA’s Coaching Director, EPHS Varisty Coach and coaches. The Clinics are designed to prepare players with a selection of the drills and skills they will experience at Travel Tryouts. Cost is $55 for all sessions. Please note there are NO refunds OR pro-rating of the fee if player is unable to attend all sessions.

2019-20 InHouse Season - Needs your help

EPGBA's In-House program needs your help!

Planning for our 2019-20 In-House season is underway but we need your help to ensure it’s a fun and successful year for ALL participates. We are looking for volunteers to help in the following areas:   

  • Communications:  Assist with program communications and marketing 
  • Uniform Coordinator: Assist with the ordering and distribution of In-House jerseys
  • Awards Coordinator:  Assist with the ordering and delivery of year end awards
  • Pictures Coordinator:  Assist with scheduling and onsite coordinator the night of team pictures
  • Player Clinics Coordinator:  Assist with player check in during the player clinics in October

Key Dates for 1st- 8th Grade In-House 2019-20 Season:

  • Registration: Now - October 2nd
  • Players Clinics: October 5th, 12th and 26th at Oak Point Elementary
    • 1st & 2nd grade: 8:30 - 9:30 am
    • 3rd & 4th grade:  9:45 - 10:45 am
    • 5th & 6th grade:  11:00 am - 12:00 pm
    • 7th & 8th grade:  12:15 - 1:15 pm
  • Coaches Clinic:  November 2nd 8:30-9:30 am at Oak Point Elementary
  • Teams announced:  The week of October 28th
  • First Practices:  Week of November 4th  
    • Mondays:  3rd & 4th grade (Forrest Hills)
    • Tuesdays:  5th & 6th grade (Oak Point)
    • Thursdays:  1st & 2nd, 7th & 8th grade (Eden Lake, Oak Point)

Key Dates for Rookie (PreK-K) League 2019-20 Season:

  • Registration: Now – December 1st
  • Season: Mondays 6:00-7:00 PM drills (last 15 minutes are open play) from Dec 9th – Feb 24th

No clinics/practices/games:

  • Nov 2nd – In-House Coach Clinic
  • Oct 17th-20th - MEA weekend
  • Nov 27th-Dec 1st – Thanksgiving Break
  • Dec 21st–Jan 3rd – Winter Break

New this year!  Based on your feedback we have made some changes to the upcoming In-House season. Below are some key highlights: 

  • Moving 1st grade from Rooke League into a combined 1st and 2nd Grade League;
  • Removing the 3-dribble and no stealing rule for 3rd & 4th grade; along with moving rim to 10ft; and 
  • Adding additional player clinics by grade during the season (Dec-Feb)

Travel Tryouts
Evaluation Phase
Friday, September 13th @ EPHS

Grades 6 & 8 -> 6:00-7:30 PM
Grades 7  -> 7:45-9:15 PM

Saturday, September 14th @ EPHS
Grades 4 & 5 -> 10:00-11:30 AM

Team Formation Phase
Sunday, September 15th @ EPHS

Grade 4 & 5 -> 10:00-10:45 AM
Grades 6 -> 11:00-11:45 AM
Grades 7 -> 12:00-12:45 PM
Grades 8 -> 1:00-1:45 PM

Mandatory Parent Meeting Tuesday Sept 10th @ 6:00 PM

EPGBA's Tryout policy was updated n January 2019. Based on the updates, the tryout process this year is different. The first day of tryouts will focus on evaluation of players’ skills by independent evaluators. Example drills to be conducted during this phase can be found on EPGBA’s Travel Tryout Scorecard.  The second day of tryouts will focus on team formation. Please refer to the Travel Program tabs and Travel Policy in Section 3 of EPGBA's Policy Handbook for more information.

 Traveling League Fees for 2019-2020 Season*
4th-6th grade = $400
7th grade = $425
8th grade = $450

Plus checks for Volunteer deposit ($200) and Coaching fee ($275) must be turned in at or before player check-in on the first day for tryouts. Volunteer deposits will be destroyed after volunteer tournament hours are completed. Coaching fee will be cashed once player is placed on a team. 


Travel Uniforms
ALL NEW players to EPGBA will need to stop by the uniform table before or after tryouts to size and recieve ordering insturctions for your uniform.  All CURRENT travel players who wish to order new sizes or another uniform can stop by and do this during tryouts as well.  All uniform orders will need to be placed by September 18th to ensure delivery before the first tournament.

Regular Registration: Now-August 25
Late Registration: August 26-September 3
(note: Late fee of $50 applies)

 

*All travel fees and any outstanding program fees must be paid in full by 9/12/19 (Thursday prior to tryouts)
*EPGBA does not accept walk-in registrations on either of the tryout dates.
*Per EPGBA policy, there are no refunds once tryouts have started.

EPGBA applications for Travel Coaches

Applications for Travel Coaches
Now Being Accepted for the Upcoming 2019-20 Season

The Eden Prairie Girls Basketball Association is seeking individuals interested in serving as Head Coaches for grades 4 through 8 during the 2019-20 travel basketball season.  Individuals will be need to complete an application detailing their basketball backgrounds and prior coaching experience.  Questions may be directed to Shari, Coach Selection Coordinator, at   

Applications must be received prior to July 30th to be considered for a head coaching position.  EPGBA will conduct interviews in early August to determine available coaches for each team.  Head Coaches will be assigned prior to tryouts and will be part of the Tryout Team Formation Committee based on EPGBA's Travel Tryout Policy in September.

EPGBA 27th Tip-off Tournament

EPGBA will be hosting its 27th annual tournament on November 2-3, 2019.  The EP Tip Off Tournament is considered one of the premier girls' tournaments offered early in the winter travel season. Eden Prairie High School, with 9 courts available, is where all teams will play their games.  We guarantee each team 3 games, with certified officials, certified medical staff, full concessions, food vendors and a fun retail vendor or two.

A, B and C Divisions
$250 per team (3 games guaranteed) 
Registration Deadline:  October 1st

Special Discount for registrations of 5 or more teams by Sept 1st - $225 per team

The Eden Prairie Girls Basketball Association (EPGBA) is a member of Trusted Coaches which is an online youth coach's training/educational program.  Coaches will receive first-aid training, concussion instruction, a nationwide criminal background check and be certified in the Positive Coaching Alliance Double-Goal Coach® character education course. Upon completion, coaches are issued a Trusted Coach Membership Card and placed on the Trusted Coaches National Registry.
